IAAF confirms more than 1,900 World Cup contributions

More than 1,900 athletes from 209 countries will be in action this month World Athletics Championships with american sprinter Allyson Felix looking for an extension of their record medals in Doha.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) confirmed 1,928 entries in a preliminary list, which was released on Thursday for the event, which runs from 27 September to 6 October.

All 30 Diamond League champions have confirmed their participation, while 38 individual London championship winners will defend their title in Doha two years ago.

Felix, the 16-medal World Championship Most Honored Athlete, was named to the US squad for the ninth time in a row and will be featured in the 4x400m relay.

100 m favorite of men Christian Coleman and reigning world champion Justin Gatlin were also selected in a 143-member US team.

49-year-old Spanish international, Jesus Angel Garcia, will extend his record number of championship titles to 13 when he races for the 50km race on September 28th.

The 1993 world champion will also become the oldest participant to take part in the championships.
