Saradha Fraud: CBI Proposes Arrest Warrant Against Rajeev Kumar
KOLKATA: The CBI sent a court here on Thursday to seek an arrest warrant against the former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in the Saradha Chit Fund fraud case.
The Agency argued that the lead IPS officer did not appear to assist in the Chit Fund's fraud investigation, despite repeated communications being sent to him.
Kumar does not cooperate with the investigation, the CBI lawyers told the Supreme Court Supreme Court (ACJM), Alipore, Subrata Mukherjee.
Lawyers representing Kumar, who is currently the additional Chief Executive Officer of West Bengal's CID, told the court that he was a witness and not a defendant, so the court could not issue a warrant for his arrest.
His lawyers denied the allegation that they had not cooperated with the investigation and claimed that Kumar could not escape. They had informed the CBI that it would not be available from 1 to 25 September.
The Saradha Chit Fund case was registered at the Alipore Court in Calcutta.
